ਜੂਨ 84 ਵਿਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਫੌਜੀ ਹਮਲਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਦੁਖਾਂਤਕ ਅਧਿਆਇ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਚੀਸ ਸਿੱਖ ਮਾਨਸਿਕਤਾ ਦੇ ਧੁਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਤਕ ਫੈਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਕ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਯੂ.ਐਨ.ਆਈ. ਲਈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਤੋਂ ਰਿਪੋਟਿੰਗ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਚਸ਼ਮਦੀਦ ਗਵਾਹ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਯਾਦਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਤੱਥਾਂ, ਪੀੜਾਂ ਤੇ ਦਰਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਹਿਜ਼ ਉਲੇਖ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਬਲਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਦੇਖਿਆ, ਹੰਢਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਈਮਾਨਦਾਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਤਸਵੀਰਕਸ਼ੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ; ਤੇ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੇੜਿਓਂ ਵਾਚਦਿਆਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਦਿੱਖ ਤੇ ਅਦਿੱਖ ਪਾਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਿਰਦਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਨੰਗਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੱਡੀਂ ਹੰਢਾਈਆਂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਭੋਗੇ ਲੰਬੇ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਦੀ ਚੀਸ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਦੇ ਆਰ-ਪਾਰ ਫੈਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਲੇਖਕ ਨੇ ਦੁਖਾਂਤਕ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਿੱਖ-ਦਰਦ ਨਾਲ ਪਰੁੱਚੇ ਕੁਝ ਸਿੱਖ ਚਿੰਤਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਰਤਾਲਾਪ ਦੇ ਵੇਰਵਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਵਿਚ ਖਾੜਕੂ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਸਿਧਾਂਤਕ ਪੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਘਾੜਨ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਹਿਜ-ਸੁਭਾਇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਮੁਲਾਂਕਣ ਲਈ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਸੂਝ-ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇੰਜ ਇਹ ਯਾਦਾਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਮੂਹਿਕ ਦਰਦ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਨਿਵੇਕਲਾ ਉੱਦਮ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਣਾਤਮਕ ਵਾਧਾ ਹੈ।
