ਇਸ ਨਾਵਲ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਪਾਤਰ ਇੰਦਰਪਾਲ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਕ ਗਰੀਬ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਲੜਕਾ ਹੈ । ਉਹ ਅਪਣੀ ਦਸਵੀਂ ਦੀ ਪੜਾਈ ਕਰਕੇ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਲਈ ਸਹਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਨਾ ਮਿਲਨ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸ਼ੌਂਕ ਨੂੰ ਕਿੱਤਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਏ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਵੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਦੂਸਰਾ ਪਾਤਰ ‘ਕੁਮਾਰੀ’ ਜੋ ਇੰਦਰਪਾਲ ਦੀ ਬਚਪਨ ਦੀ ਦੋਸਤ ਸੀ । ਇੰਦਰਪਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਏ । ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਤਰ ਹੈ ‘ਰਘੁਨਾਥ’ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਮਾਰੀ ਘਰੋਂ ਭਜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਚੌਥਾ ਪਾਤਰ ਹੈ ‘ਅਰਵਿੰਦ’ ਦਾ ਜੋ ਇਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਅਮੀਰ ਲੜਕੀ ਹੈ । ਕਿਵੇਂ ਅਰਵਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਇੰਦਰਪਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਕੁਮਾਰੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰਾਚਿਤ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਸਭ ਨਾਵਲ ਪੜ ਕੇ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗੇਗਾ । ਸਾਰੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਲੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਹੀ ਘੁੰਮਦੀ ਹੈ ।

Another character is Ragunath, with whom Kumari elopes. The fourth character, Arvind, is a very wealthy girl. The story revolves around how Arvind connects with Inderpal and how Kumari establishes her identity.
