ਪਿਛਲੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਦਹਾਕਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੜ੍ਹੀ ਦਾ ਦੀਵਾ ਤੋਂ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਇਹ ਨਾਵਲ ਵੀ ਚਰਚਾ ’ਚ ਰਿਹਾ । ਕਾਰਨ ਤਾਂ ਕਈ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ , ਪਰ ਇਸ ਚਰਚਾ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਕਾਰਨ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਦੋ ਸਨ । ਪਹਿਲਾ : ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੁਸ਼ਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਚਲੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ, ਬਦਲੇ ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਤਲ ਦੀ ਘਟਨਾ ਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ : ਪੂੰਜੀਵਾਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਾਂ ਅਧੀਨ ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਵਰਤਾਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਉਹ ਤਬਦੀਲੀਆਂ ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਅਣਖ ਤੇ ਸਵੈਮਾਣ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਦਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਬੁਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਕਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਮਾਜ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਦਕਾ ਸਮਾਜ ਅਮਾਨਵੀ ਵਿਵਸਥਾ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰੇ ਲਈ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।

In the last three decades, this novel has gained significant attention following "Marhi Da Deeva." There are several reasons for this discussion, but perhaps two main ones stand out. First: the incidents of murder driven by the longstanding desire for revenge in the agrarian culture of Punjab. Second: the changes occurring in farming practices under capitalist influences, which are adversely affecting intrinsic values like self-respect and dignity. These values are crucial for maintaining the potential for social struggles against inhumane systems.
