ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਿਛਲੀ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਸੱਤਰਵਿਆਂ, ਅਸੀਵੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਨੱਬੇਵਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ’ਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੰਢਾਇਆ ਜਾਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਨੇੜਿਓਂ ਤੱਕਿਆ; ਉਹ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦੇ ਨੇ, ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਨੇ ਕਿ ਦਰਿਆ ਬਲ਼ ਸਕਦੇ ਨੇ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ’ਚੋਂ ਭਾਂਬੜ ਨਿਕਲ਼ ਸਕਦੇ ਨੇ। ਇਹ ਬਲ਼ਦੇ ਦਰਿਆਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਝੁਲਸਾਇਆ, ਕਿੰਨਾ ਲੁਸਿਆ; ਇਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਲਾਉਣਾ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਟਾਕੀ ਲਾਉਣ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਉਸ ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਸੇਕ ’ਚ ਝੁਲਸ ਗਏ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਾ-ਜੋਖਾ ਹੈ; ਉਸ ਦਾ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪੰਜਾਬ ’ਚ ਵਾਪਰਿਆ, ਜੋ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੇ ਹੰਢਾਇਆ। ਜੋ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨਾਲ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫਰੋਲਣ, ਸਮਝਣ, ਪਕੜਨ ਤੇ ਕਲਮ ਜ਼ਰੀਏ ਸੰਭਾਲ਼ਣ ਦਾ ਯਤਨ ਹੈ। ਕਿਤਾਬ ’ਚ ਹੋਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਕੁਝ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਪੜ੍ਹਨੀ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ; ਖ਼ਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਨੂੰ।
