ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਲੜੀ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਜਿਲਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਦਿ ਕਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ 1765 ਈ. ਤੱਕ ਦਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ । ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦਾ ਆਦਿ ਕਾਲ ਹੜੱਪਾ ਸੱਭਿਅਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਕਾਲ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ 1765 ਈ. ਹੈ । ਲੇਖਕ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ-ਵਿਧੀ ਮੌਲਿਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੱਖਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਗੌਲਣ-ਯੋਗ ਹਨ ।
