‘ਲਾਲ ਬੱਤੀ’ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਦਰਦਭਰੀ ਦਾਸਤਾਨ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਜਿਸਮਫਰੋਸ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਦਲਦਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀਆਂ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਗਹਿਰੀ ਸੁਰਖੀ, ਧਾਰੀਦਾਰ ਸੁਰਮੇ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਊਡਰ ਦੀ ਮੋਟੀ ਪਰਤ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਛਿਪੀਆਂ ਗੁਟਕਦੀਆਂ-ਮਟਕਦੀਆਂ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਦਿਨ ਦੇ ਉਜਾਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੰਦਰੂਨੀ ਵੇਦਨਾ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਚੀਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਨਾਵਲ ਵਿਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਸੇ ਵੇਦਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ । ‘ਲਾਲ ਬੱਤੀ’ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਰਾਪੀਆਂ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰੁਦਨ ਦੀ ਗਾਥਾ ਹੈ ।

"Lal Batti" is a heartbreaking tale of those girls trapped in the mire of prostitution, who appear to be hiding under a thick layer of deep red, striped eyeliner, and heavy makeup, revealing only their bodies in the darkness of night. However, in the light of day, their inner pain cuts deep into the soul. The novel attempts to understand this pain. "Lal Batti" is the saga of the cries of these cursed lives.
