1972 ਵਿੱਚ ਐਮ.ਏ. ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖਲਾ ਲੈਣ ਸਮੇਂ, ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਲਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਕੁਲਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਗ੍ਰੇਵਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਰੂਸੀ ਲੇਖਕ ਸਿਕੰਦਰ ਸੋਲਜ਼ੇਨਿਤਸਿਨ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਿਆ। ਜਦੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੋਬਲ ਇਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਦੇਸ ਨਿਕਾਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ, ਇਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਹੈਰਾਨੀ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੀ। ਮੈਂ ਸੋਲਜ਼ੇਨਿਤਸਿਨ 'ਤੇ ਸਮੱਗਰੀ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਬਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਹਮਦਰਦ ਦੇ ਮਾਸਿਕ ਪੱਤਰ "ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ" ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਖਤ ਦਾ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੋਲਜ਼ੇਨਿਤਸਿਨ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਲੇਖ ਵੀ ਛਪਿਆ। ਮੈਂ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਕਿਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਕ ਦੇ ਗਾਹਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਖੇਗੀ।
ਮੇਰੀ ਲਿਖਤ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਨਾਲ, ਮੈਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪਾਠਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਲਜ਼ੇਨਿਤਸਿਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਯਤਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸੋਵੀਅਤ ਦੇ ਦੌਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਚਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਰੂਸੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੀ ਹਕੀਕਤ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਆਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸੋਲਜ਼ੇਨਿਤਸਿਨ 1918 ਵਿੱਚ ਜਨਮਿਆ ਅਤੇ 2008 ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਸਕੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਤ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ। ਉਸਨੇ ਬੁਰਾਈ ਬਾਰੇ ਲਿਖਣ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਸਮਝਾਈ, ਜੋ ਉਸਦੀ ਕਲਮ ਦਾ ਸਚਾਈ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਜਵਾਬ ਸੀ।

In 1972, while pursuing my M.A., I heard the name of Russian writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn from Professors Lali and Kulwant Singh Grewal. It was surprising to me when he received the Nobel Prize and was later exiled. I began collecting information about him.
For the monthly magazine "Drishti" by Barjinder Hamdard, I translated Solzhenitsyn's open letter. This issue also featured an article against him.
Through my writing, I tried to popularize his name among Punjabi readers. His works during the Soviet era depicted the reality of Russian society. Solzhenitsyn was born in 1918 and passed away in Moscow in 2008. He emphasized the importance of writing about evil, which was a response of his pen to the truth.
